Social security covers more agricultural labors in Jordan
(MENAFN) As January of this year came to a closure, the total of agricultural workers included in the social security increased to reach 18,761, in comparison to 5,988 workers in 2020. This growth was triggered by the application of the 2021 Agricultural Workers Law.
According to a local news agency, Mohammad Zyoud, the Ministry of Labour Spokesperson, announced on Sunday that the total of agricultural farms included in social security by late January had risen to reach 2,009, indicating a significant increase from 313 farms reported in 2020.
Zyoud credited this rise to the implementation of the Agricultural Workers Law of 2021, which broadened social security scope to include both non-Jordanian agricultural labors as well as agricultural farms.
Previously, the law mandated social security coverage only for agricultural holdings with more than three workers. However, new modifications now require coverage for all agricultural labors, regardless of the number of employees on the farm.
In collaboration with the Social Security Corporation (SSC), the Ministry of Labor seeks to improve worker protection and decrease the costs associated with workplace accidents for farmers.
