Erdogan speaks to Trump about bilateral cooperation between two nations
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke with US President Donald trump on Sunday, expressing confidence that bilateral cooperation between the two nations will advance in a new era of relations based on solidarity, mutual interests, and a results-driven approach.
According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, the leaders discussed bilateral ties, regional affairs, and global issues during the call. Their last conversation took place in November, when Erdogan congratulated Trump on his re-election.
Erdogan emphasized the need for increased consultations between Türkiye and the US, particularly amid ongoing regional and global challenges. He also voiced support for Trump’s direct approach in seeking an end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace.
Additionally, Erdogan called for joint efforts to lift sanctions on Syria, arguing that doing so would help stabilize the country and facilitate the return of Syrian refugees.
Regarding defense cooperation, Erdogan urged the removal of CAATSA sanctions, the completion of the F-16 procurement process, and Türkiye’s reintegration into the F-35 program. He also called for stronger collaboration in combating terrorism while ensuring Türkiye’s security concerns are respected.
