Burden on US reporters gets worse than ever under Biden
(MENAFN) American journalist and former RT host Rick Sanchez has claimed that government pressure on journalists in the U.S. reached unprecedented levels under former President Joe Biden. Speaking with RT on Tuesday, Sanchez described receiving “mysterious calls” about his employment while working at the network, before his show was ultimately “shut down” by U.S. authorities.
Sanchez, who now hosts the podcast Journalistically Speaking, criticized the U.S. government for restricting journalists’ rights, stating, “Our government is not supposed to tell us who we can work for, where we can work, or what we can say.” He argued that censorship was worse under Biden than at any other time, accusing the administration of effectively “canceling people” for their views.
He suggested that the government targeted his program because of perceived support for Donald Trump and criticism of Ukraine. Reflecting on his time at RT, Sanchez said he had greater editorial freedom at the Russian network than at major U.S. outlets like CNN, Fox News, and NBC. He praised RT’s global perspective, adding that most Americans would be surprised to learn that Russian media provided him with more transparency and fairness than its U.S. counterparts.
Sanchez also pointed out the hypocrisy of criticizing journalists for working at RT while many American news anchors have backgrounds as government officials, including former White House, Pentagon, and State Department spokespersons.
