Qatar, Russia strengthen ties, address Ukraine war


(MENAFN) On Sunday, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani held talks with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, focusing on strengthening two-sided ties, especially in trade, economic, as well as technical sectors, as disclosed by Qatar's Foreign Ministry.

Both officials examined the latest developments in the Ukraine critical situation and addressed a range of pressing local and global matters of shared interest.

Al Thani and Manturov jointly presided over the fifth meeting of the Qatari-Russian Joint Committee on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation.

Al Thani reiterated Qatar’s backing for widespread initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful settlement to the Ukraine crisis through diplomatic talks.

Stressing the role of the Gaza ceasefire covenant in ending the conflict and fostering a fair, lasting, as well as inclusive peace in the area, he underscored the "urgent need" to enforce the covenant and direct efforts to achieving peace.
