UNDP, Germany Hand Over Climate-Resilient Homes To Balochistan's Flood-Affected Families

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Quetta, March 14, 2025 The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with financial support from the government of Germany through KfW Development bank and in collaboration with the Government of Balochistan, has handed over the first batch of 40 climate-resilient houses to families affected by the devastating 2022 floods. The ceremony, held in Hanna Urak, Quetta, marks a critical milestone in the province's ongoing recovery efforts.

The 2022 floods wreaked havoc across Balochistan, damaging over 250,000 houses and affecting 1.6 million people. In response, UNDP initiated its Flood Recovery Programme, focusing on sustainable housing, infrastructure rehabilitation, livelihood restoration, and institutional strengthening.

The initiative is expected to benefit more than 20,000 individuals, including approximately 14,000 women and children. Built with locally sourced and climate-adaptive materials, these homes ensure long-term disaster resilience and sustainability.
