Downpours in Bolivia leads to 40 deaths, destructions

(MENAFN) Officials reported on Monday that since November, the beginning of the yearly monsoon, a total of forty citizens were reported dead due to the heavy showers and the following floods in Bolivia. Furthermore, the downpours resulted in losing track of 7 more people.

The figure of death could increase following a landslip that occurred on Monday morning in La Paz city, which resulted in the destruction of eighty households, according to Juan Carlos Calvimontes, Deputy Minister of Civil Defense.

As the area of the landslip is still prone to more collapses, officials have issued orders of a complete departure of the area to prevent more deaths and asked people to remain outside the site.

Recent civil defense report has revealed that since Sunday, a total of 163,193 families were either relocated or remained without a roof over their heads, with the majority of the destruction concentrated in the La Paz region.

As of the rainy season started in November, a total of 105 townships have been affected by the downpour, with thirty-seven of them announcing a state of emergency.
