IFAB approves new rule for time-wasting by goalkeepers


(MENAFN) The International football Association Board (IFAB) reported on Saturday that a fresh law was accepted for time-wasting by goalkeepers.

The IFAB, following the 139th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Belfast, Northern Ireland, all decided to change a rule about indirect free kicks, that means in case a goalkeeper keeps the ball in his hands for more than 8 seconds -- with the referee utilizing a visual five-second countdown, the referee will give a corner kick to the opponent’s team.

The rule has mentioned beforehand that a goalkeeper has six seconds to let go of the ball before the opponent’s team is given an indirect free kick, however, it was barely implemented by officials.
