Telegram CEO Returns to Dubai During Current French Investigation
(MENAFN) Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov announced on Monday that he has returned to Dubai after spending several months in France, where he is under investigation for allegedly permitting criminal acts on the app.
“As you may have heard, I’ve returned to Dubai after spending several months in France due to an investigation related to the activity of criminals on Telegram. The process is ongoing, but it feels great to be home,” Durov shared on his Telegram account.
Durov expressed gratitude to the judges for permitting his return.
Born in Russia, Durov also holds French and Emirati citizenship. He was arrested in August 2024 upon arriving in Paris on his private jet at Le Bourget airport.
He was charged with "complicity" in the spread of child abuse pictures and drug contraband but was released on EURO5 million (about USD5.4 million) bail under judicial supervision.
Russia condemned Durov's arrest as “politically motivated,” further fueling controversy around the incident.
Media reports indicated that French authorities lifted travel limitations on Durov between March 15 and April 7.
