Macron calls on Russia to Prove Will Regarding Peace with Ukraine
(MENAFN) French Leader Emmanuel macron called on Russia to demonstrate its commitment to peace by accepting a US-supported suggestion for a 30-day truce following his discussions with Ukrainian Leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"President Zelenskyy demonstrated the courage to accept the US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. It is now up to Russia to prove that it truly wants peace," Macron posted on X, after announcing his conversations with both Zelenskyy and United States Leader Donald trump over the weekend.
Macron emphasized the urgent need to end the war, stressing that "atrocities and sabotage" must also cease. He added, "These are all conditions that Russia must fulfill. And I am confident in President Trump’s commitment to this cause."
Macron also called for all parties to introduce a "concrete peace plan" that would offer strong security assurances for Ukraine, ensure long-term peace in both Ukraine and Europe, as well as preventing future Russian aggression.
Zelenskyy echoed the sentiment, describing his conversation with Macron as "very constructive" and underscoring the importance of expanding a coalition of nations dedicated to achieving a "just and lasting peace" in Ukraine.
