Boats With Illegal Lobsters Were Intercepted

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) Agents from the Naval Air Service (SENAN) and the Aquatic Resources Authority of Panama (ARAP) intercepted two vessels that were transporting lobsters in a reproductive state and with a size smaller than that permitted by law on the Costa Arriba of Colón. The operation, called“Decent Fishing” aims to regulate fishing in the region and protect endangered marine species. The lobsters were confiscated by ARAP officials and returned to the sea, as part of the marine conservation strategies implemented by the institution.

This measure seeks to guarantee the sustainability of the species and prevent the overexploitation of aquatic resources in Panamanian waters. The Panama Aquatic Resources Authority has reminded that lobster tails measuring less than 14 centimeters are illegal and may be confiscated by the institution's inspectors, as occurred this weekend. In the Costa Arriba region, lobster is a traditional food for local families, who depend on this activity for personal consumption and for sale to hotels and restaurants in the area.
