Zelensky says he`s ‘unsure’ Ukraine will survive without US assistance

(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged that Ukraine may struggle to survive against Russian forces if US aid were to stop. His remarks come after US President Donald trump paused most of Washington’s foreign funding programs. Since the war with Russia intensified in February 2022, the US has been Ukraine's primary supporter, contributing billions in assistance.

While Zelensky confirmed that US aid is still ongoing, he admitted that without this support, Ukraine’s defense capabilities would be severely impacted. He expressed uncertainty about whether Ukraine could continue to withstand the conflict without this vital backing.

Trump’s executive order last month put US foreign aid programs on hold for 90 days pending reviews, affecting entities like USAID, which channels billions to various global causes. These actions have sparked discussions over the future of US assistance to Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously stated that Ukraine would not last long without Western support, arguing that the country is heavily reliant on foreign aid for its survival. The Kremlin has also claimed that the US and European support effectively makes them parties to the ongoing conflict.
