Netanyahu announces Israel postponed Iran’s nuclear bomb plans by ten years

(MENAFN) \Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Iran "probably" could have developed a nuclear weapon a decade ago if Israel had not intervened. He warned, however, that Iran's nuclear ambitions remain a serious threat. His comments came shortly after a New York Times report revealed that Iranian scientists are working on a quicker method to create nuclear weapons, with a covert team focused on accelerating bomb production. Netanyahu, during his visit to the US, discussed this new intelligence with US officials.

Netanyahu emphasized the shared stance with US President Donald Trump, who believes Iran must be stopped from obtaining nuclear weapons. Iran's uranium enrichment activities have long raised suspicions in the West and Israel, although Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. Iran has faced extensive international sanctions over its nuclear development.

While Iran reached the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) deal in 2015, which temporarily limited its nuclear program, the US withdrew from the agreement in 2018 under Trump’s administration. Since then, Iran has dramatically increased its uranium enrichment, with concerns mounting over its accelerated efforts.
