Trump administration places boundaries on Musk’s DOGE

(MENAFN) \The trump administration has agreed to a temporary order restricting the Department of government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, from accessing sensitive financial data held by the US Treasury Department. This decision follows a lawsuit by union members and retirees accusing the Treasury of illegally providing private payment information to DOGE.

Under the proposed order, DOGE will be prohibited from accessing any payment records or systems within the Bureau of the Fiscal Service. The only exception is for two special government employees, Tom Krause and Marko Elez, who work closely with Musk. They will have "read-only" access to necessary records.

Krause, former CEO of Cloud Software Group, and Elez, a 25-year-old engineer from Musk’s companies X and SpaceX, will only be permitted access as needed for their roles. These restrictions will remain in place until a court hearing scheduled for February 24, pending approval by US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly.

The Justice Department has denied any claims of the Treasury sharing personal data with Musk’s team, emphasizing that no such information would be provided to outside parties. DOGE, created by Trump and led by Musk, is tasked with identifying and eliminating wasteful government spending in an effort to reduce the federal deficit. Musk has described the initiative as a tool to cut bureaucratic waste.
