Cabinet Holds Weekly Meeting
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at its seat at the Amiri Diwan on Wednesday morning.
After the meeting, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi issued the following statement:
At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet welcomed the results of the state visit made by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the Sultanate of Oman on Jan. 28-29.
The Cabinet stressed that the visit and fruitful and constructive discussions that took place between HH the Amir and HM Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the memoranda of understanding and executive programs signed, and the joint statement issued at the end of the visit, reflect the depth and strength of the historical relations between the two countries, and the common desire to develop and advance them, which would serve the interests of the two countries and its brotherly peoples, support joint Gulf action, and contribute to preserving the security and stability of the region and the world.
The Cabinet also appreciated the official and historic visit of HH the Amir to the Syrian Arab Republic on Jan. 30, which expresses Qatar's firm positions in supporting the brotherly Syrian people to achieve their aspirations for development and prosperity.
The Cabinet praised the fraternal and positive atmosphere between HH the Amir and HE President of the Syrian Arab Republic Ahmed Al Sharaa at the People's Palace in Damascus, which embodied the extent of the distinguished relations that unite the two peoples and leaderships, and laid the foundations for strategic cooperation between the countries in various fields, which would benefit and bring development to the two peoples, and contribute to consolidating peace and stability in the region.
The Cabinet then considered the topics on its agenda, where it took note of the Shura Council's approval of a draft law amending some provisions of Law No. 1 of 2012 on regulating and monitoring the placement of advertisements.
The Cabinet agreed to take the necessary measures to ratify the supplementary agreement to the agreement between the government of the State of Qatar and the United Nations Development Programme on the establishment of a UNDP office in Qatar, and a memorandum of understanding for bilateral cooperation to establish the joint ministerial committee for trade cooperation between the government of the State of Qatar and the government of the Republic of Costa Rica.
The Cabinet decided to approve joining the International Operational Risk Working Group (IORWG) and a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of food security between the Ministry of Municipality in the State of Qatar and the General Food Security Authority in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
They also approved a draft agreement for the basic contribution to the regular resources of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for the years 2025-2026 between Qatar Fund for Development and the United Nations through its Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, a draft basic contribution agreement between Qatar Fund for Development and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) to support UNICEF's regular resources for the years 2025-2026, and a draft supplementary agreement to the agreement between the UN, represented by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict and Qatar regarding the establishment of the Analysis and Communication Center of the Office in the country.
The Cabinet approved a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of academic cooperation between Doha University of Science and Technology and the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, as well as a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of academic cooperation between Doha University of Science and Technology and the University of British Columbia in Canada.
The Cabinet concluded its meeting by reviewing four reports and taking the appropriate decisions regarding them. These reports included the results of the re-study to measure the impact of implementing the Tenders and Auctions Regulations Law and its executive regulations, discussing ways to develop government procurement systems, in addition to a report by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change on the views of some government agencies regarding the environmental sustainability strategy and incentives for using electric and hybrid cars in Qatar, a report on the participation of HE Minister of Environment and Climate Change in COP 29, and a report on the results of the 10th session of the Qatar-Iran Joint Committee
