Breaking: 50Th Imam Of Ismaili Muslims Announced

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V has been declared the 50th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community, following the passing of his father, His Highness Shah Karim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan IV, who led the community for over six decades. The announcement was made in Lisbon in the presence of the Imam's family and senior Ismaili leaders after the reading of Karim's Will, in accordance with the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslim tradition of Nass-the formal designation of the succeeding Imam.

Shah Karim, who passed away on February 4, 2025, dedicated his life to the service of the Ismaili community and global development. Over his 67-year tenure as the 49th hereditary Imam, he played a transformative role in humanitarian efforts, education, and cultural preservation through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), one of the world's largest private development organizations. His work uplifted millions across Africa, South Asia, Central Asia, and beyond, leaving behind a profound legacy of social impact.

As the new Imam, Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V assumes leadership with the responsibility of continuing the spiritual guidance and service of the Ismaili Muslim community. According to the Ismaili belief, the Nur of Imamat, which traces its unbroken lineage from Hazrat Mawlana Ali (peace be upon him), is now vested in him, marking the continuation of the Ismaili Imamat's historic succession.

This is a developing story. Further details regarding official ceremonies and the transition of leadership are expected to be announced in due course.
