Global Tributes To Aga Khan: Guterres Calls Him A Symbol Of Peace And Kindness

On Wednesday, February 5, Mr. Guterres shared a photo of himself with the Ismaili Imam on the social media platform X, offering his condolences to the family and followers of the Ismaili community worldwide.

Prince Karim Aga Khan passed away yesterday at the age of 88 in Lisbon, Portugal. According to an official announcement from the Ismaili Imamate and the Aga Khan Development Network, he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.

The news of his death has been met with an outpouring of grief and condolences worldwide. Former Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai also expressed that the passing of the Ismaili Imam was a“great loss” and conveyed his“deepest condolences and sympathy to his family, relatives, and followers.”

Mr. Karzai further added that the people of Afghanistan would never forget the valuable services and the role played by Prince Karim Aga Khan in providing public welfare, rebuilding the country, restoring historical monuments, and establishing service and cultural institutions.

Malala Yousafzai, education activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, also stated that the legacy of Aga Khan“will live on through his extraordinary work in education, health, and development across the world.”

As the 49th hereditary Imam of the Ismailis, Prince Karim Aga Khan led his community for over six decades, playing a key role in human development, education, cultural heritage preservation, and advancing humanitarian projects.
