EU Announces 15Th Package Of Sanctions Against Russia
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
BRUSSELS, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Wednesday that EU member states have agreed on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia "in response to its aggression against Ukraine".
Von der Leyen said in a post on X that the sanctions specifically target Russia's shadow fleet, emphasizing the EU's and its G7 partners' commitment to continue keeping pressure on the Kremlin.
For her part, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, welcomed the new sanctions package, stressing the need to "maintain strong pressure on Russia" and affirming that this would "further weaken Putin's war machine."
According to the Hungarian presidency, which currently holds the rotating EU presidency, the package adds more individuals and entities to the existing sanctions list and targets entities in Russia and third countries outside Russia that indirectly contribute to enhancing Russia's military and technological capabilities through circumventing export restrictions.
The adopted sanctions are expected to limit the activities of additional vessels from third countries that contribute to or support policies or actions backing Russia's actions against Ukraine. (end)
