Robbers loot Iranian Embassy in Damascus

(MENAFN) Looters have ransacked the Iranian Embassy in Damascus following the jihadist takeover of the Syrian capital, according to a video posted by a Telegram channel associated with Iraqi militias. The footage shows shattered windows, disarrayed offices, and traces of gunfire on the embassy’s bulletproof glass. Civilians can be seen removing furniture and office equipment from the building.

Iranian state TV reported that "unknown individuals" attacked the embassy, but denied claims that it had evacuated staff in response to the advancing forces of Hayat Tahrir-al-Sham (HTS) and other opposition groups. Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy in Damascus remains operational, with a spokesperson confirming everything is "fine."

The looting follows the declaration by jihadist groups that they have taken control of Damascus and ousted President Bashar Assad, who reportedly fled the capital on Saturday. HTS commander Ahmed Al-Sharaa has instructed militants to avoid public institutions and keep them under the supervision of Syria’s former prime minister, Mohammad al-Jalali, until a transfer of power occurs. Al-Jalali has expressed his willingness to cooperate with any new leadership.
