Association of Information, Communication Technology Companies highlights government's strategic focus on IT sector
(MENAFN) The Association of Information and Communication Technology Companies (Intaj) highlighted the government's strategic focus on the information technology (IT) sector, as outlined in the confidence statement by Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan to the House of Representatives. Intaj emphasized that the IT sector is a vital pillar for enhancing Jordan’s economic competitiveness, stressing the need for deeper incentives to help it compete internationally.
Intaj pointed out that the IT sector is not just an ordinary industry but a critical enabler for other sectors, requiring a strategic realignment to attract investments and facilitate its regional and global expansion. The association noted Jordan’s strong competencies, evidenced by the growing demand for Jordanian companies, especially in the outsourcing sector, which employs over 8,000 Jordanians and is supported by a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Eid Amjad Al-Suwais, Chairman of Intaj, praised the Prime Minister’s address for emphasizing the importance of the IT sector, noting the government’s ambitious goals, such as boosting the sector’s annual growth rate to 13% and increasing its GDP contribution from 2.9% to 4.7% over the next five years. Al-Suwais also welcomed recent government decisions, including the extension of profit tax exemptions on IT exports for ten years and the reduction of income tax on local services to 5%, calling them crucial steps to enhance the sector’s global competitiveness.
He stressed that these measures should be part of a comprehensive plan to support companies in increasing exports and nurturing startups, particularly with the government’s commitment to supporting 250 companies over the next five years. Al-Suwais concluded that Jordan’s IT sector has a solid global reputation, with increasing international demand for its services.
