Cost of enforcing military rule over Gaza Strip estimated to exceed USD6.8 billion per year

(MENAFN) According to a report from the Hebrew Broadcasting Corporation on Tuesday, based on information from security sources, the cost of enforcing military rule over the Gaza Strip is estimated to exceed $6.8 billion per year. Israeli analysts and critics argue that by rejecting a ceasefire, the Israeli government seems to be pushing for military control of Gaza.

The report states that maintaining military rule in Gaza would cost Israel at least NIS 25 billion annually ($6.8 billion). This figure includes approximately NIS 20 billion ($5.4 billion) for military expenditures, such as the upkeep of four army divisions, reserve service, and other related costs.

In addition, several hundred million shekels would be needed each year for civil administration in Gaza, with an additional 5-10 billion shekels ($1.3-2.7 billion) for basic civil services for the Palestinian population.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, leader of the right-wing Religious Zionism party, has called for the reoccupation of Gaza, the creation of settlements, and the forced displacement of Palestinians. Similarly, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, has voiced support for these measures. Smotrich recently addressed the economic implications of reoccupying Gaza at a conference for the West Bank Settlements Council.
