Iran’s Assistant to President for Strategic Affairs expresses Iran’s openness to negotiations with US, other global partners


(MENAFN) In a Foreign Affairs article, Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s Assistant to the President for Strategic Affairs, expressed Iran’s openness to negotiations with the United States and other global partners. While Iran is confident in its defense capabilities, Zarif emphasized the country's desire for peace and regional stability.

Zarif explained that President Massoud’s goals go beyond economic development, aiming for constructive engagement with the West. He noted that Iran is prepared to manage tensions with the newly elected U.S. president and pursue fair negotiations, especially regarding the nuclear deal. Zarif also highlighted Iran’s desire to strengthen ties with neighboring countries to foster regional peace and security.

Acknowledging the long-standing issues in the region, including foreign intervention and sectarian conflicts, Zarif outlined Iran's commitment to addressing these challenges through regional economic integration, energy security, and dialogue among faiths. He also noted the importance of overcoming historical differences with Iran’s neighbors to create a peaceful regional order.

On U.S. relations, Zarif reiterated Iran’s willingness to engage in dialogue under terms that protect its national interests. He stressed that the West must take practical steps to ensure that Iran benefits economically from the nuclear deal. Zarif concluded by calling for a new chapter in U.S.-Iran relations based on mutual respect and equality.
