Bulgaria Increases Spending On Azerbaijani Gas Imports - EU Data

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29. Bulgaria's
expenditure on importing Azerbaijani gas rose to 24.3 million euros
in July 2024, slightly up from 23.9 million euros in the same
period of 2023, Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office,
told Trend .
This marks a year-on-year increase of nearly 1.7 percent in
Bulgaria's gas import costs from Azerbaijan.
For the first seven months of 2024, Bulgaria's total spending on
Azerbaijani gas amounted to 165.5 million euros, reflecting a 15.6
percent decrease compared to the 196 million euros spent during the
same period in 2023.
In terms of volume, Azerbaijan supplied 77.2 million cubic
meters of gas to Bulgaria in July 2024, a slight decrease from the
77.3 million cubic meters delivered in July 2023, representing a
0.13 percent drop.
From January to July 2024, Bulgaria imported 530 million cubic
meters of gas from Azerbaijan, down by 0.65 percent from the 533.5
million cubic meters imported during the same period last year.
Azerbaijan began exporting gas to Europe through the Southern
Gas Corridor on December 31, 2020. The corridor, which runs through
Georgia and Turkey, facilitates the transportation of gas from the
Caspian Sea region to Europe.
In July 2022, Azerbaijan and the European Union agreed to double
gas supplies via this corridor, aiming to increase capacity from 10
billion cubic meters to 20 billion cubic meters annually by
2027.
