University of Cambridge's Museum of Zoology to unveil AI-powered experience

(MENAFN) The University of Cambridge's Museum of Zoology is set to unveil an innovative AI-powered experience that will allow visitors to interact with animal specimens starting Tuesday. This advanced AI system facilitates two-way conversations through voice or text, enabling specimens to respond as if they were alive, as detailed on the university's website.

Visitors will have the unique opportunity to engage in conversations with 13 different exhibits, including extinct species like the dodo, an extinct flightless bird. This interactive experience will be available from October 15 to November 15, 2024. Jack Ashby, the museum's assistant director, emphasized that this initiative provides "an amazing opportunity for people to test out an emerging technology" within a museum context.

The AI system is designed to provide comprehensive information about each specimen, covering aspects such as its origin and preparation for display. Gal Zanir, co-founder of Nature Perspectives, the company behind the AI technology, noted that the system allows for the simulation of non-human perspectives, offering a novel way for audiences to connect with the natural world.

This month-long experiment represents a fresh approach to museum education, merging historical artifacts with cutting-edge AI technology to enhance visitor engagement and learning. Additionally, the technology can adapt to various age groups and communicate in over 20 languages, ensuring accessibility for a diverse range of visitors.
