BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 4. Today marks four
years since the liberation of the city of Jabrayil from Armenian
occupation, Trend
reports.
As a result of the Azerbaijani Army's counter-offensive
operation, which began on September 27, 2020, the enemy's defensive
and fortification lines on Azerbaijani territory were
systematically destroyed.
On October 4, 2020, President Ilham Aliyev announced the
liberation of the city of Jabrayil and several villages in the
region from Armenian occupation. Along with Jabrayil, the villages
of Karkhulu, Shukurbeyli, Yukhari Maralyan, Charakan, Dashkasan,
Khorovlu, Dejal, Mahmudlu, and Jafarabad in the Jabrayil district
were also recaptured.
In accordance with a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on
July 31, 2023, Jabrayil City Day is now celebrated annually on
October 4.
On September 27, 2020, the villages of Boyuk Marjanly and Nuzgar
in the Jabrayil district were liberated, followed by the villages
of Mehdili, Chakhirly, Ashagy Maralyan, Sheybey, and Guyjak on
October 3. On October 4, Jabrayil city and nine additional
villages-Karkhulu, Shukurbeyli, Charakan, Dashkasan, Khorovlu,
Mahmudlu, Jafarabad, Yukhari Maralyan, and Dejal-were freed from
occupation. In total, as a result of military operations in the
Jabrayil district, one city and 90 villages were liberated.
On November 26, 2020, the“For the Liberation of Jabrayil” medal
was established.
The operation to liberate Jabrayil during the Patriotic War,
which restored the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, was
pivotal. Its success paved the way for further counter-offensives
in other occupied areas. After Jabrayil's liberation, the
Azerbaijani Army gained the strategic advantage to advance toward
the southern villages of the Khojavend region and the critical
settlement of Hadrut. This led to the liberation of Zangilan,
Gubadli, and the southern part of the Lachin region.
The liberation of Jabrayil opened broader military opportunities
for Azerbaijan, enabling successful operations in other key areas
that were under occupation.
