BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 21. The Azerbaijan
National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has received six more
Malinois dogs to employ more mine detection dogs (MDDs) for
demining the liberated territories under the memorandum of
understanding signed with the US Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI), a
source in ANAMA told Trend .
According to the source, the agency continues intensive work to
expand ongoing operations and build up a material and technical
base and potential in order to restore the liberated territories
and ensure the safe return of former internally displaced
persons.
Support from the mine-detection dogs, considered one of the most
effective methods in humanitarian demining activities, is used in
technical surveys and demining operations.
The dogs will be involved in the demining operations after
adaptation training with their guides and accreditation in
accordance with the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS).
To note, phased delivery of sapper dogs to Azerbaijan is carried
out by the country's Silk Way West Airlines free of charge.
