Ukrainian neo-Nazi team gets compelled to limit EU PR tour

(MENAFN) Ukraine's 3rd Assault Brigade, associated with the controversial Azov movement known for its neo-Nazi ties, faced significant obstacles during its planned PR tour across Europe, ultimately leading to the cancellation of several scheduled events due to widespread public criticism.

Initially, the brigade announced plans to visit nine cities across Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania from July 21 to August 2. The purpose of their tour was to present what they described as "the truth about service in the brigade" and share frontline experiences to garner support for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.

While the brigade managed to conduct an event in Warsaw, it encountered strong opposition in other European cities. Rotterdam's Wmo Radar, a welfare organization, decided to withdraw its support for the event, citing negative media attention and concerns raised by local politicians who deemed the gathering as "undesirable" and politically biased.

In Berlin, left-wing groups expressed intentions to protest outside the hotel where the brigade was scheduled to meet. Politician Ferat Kocak voiced opposition, asserting that Berlin should not serve as a platform for extreme right-wing ideologies or militaristic propaganda under the guise of solidarity with Ukraine.

Amid mounting backlash and security concerns, the 3rd Assault Brigade announced on Thursday the cancellation of events in Berlin, Rotterdam, Brussels, and Cologne, emphasizing the need to protect their members from perceived threats. They clarified that only meetings in Prague and Vilnius remained on their schedule.

The series of cancellations underscores the contentious nature of the Azov movement's activities in Europe and highlights broader debates regarding freedom of expression, political neutrality, and public safety in the context of international conflicts. As the situation evolves, it prompts reflection on how European societies navigate engagements with contentious foreign military entities amidst complex geopolitical tensions.
