Iran's Ports, Maritime Organization to inaugurate 8 new projects by March 2025

(MENAFN) Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) is set to advance the development of its ports with the inauguration of eight new projects by the end of the current Iranian calendar year, according to an Iranian news agency. These projects include significant infrastructure enhancements aimed at improving port capacity and efficiency.

Key among the upcoming projects are a 100,000-ton silo at Shahid Beheshti Port in Chabahar, three new berths at the oil wharf of Shahid Rajaei Port, and a 1.8-kilometer access corridor to Shahid Beheshti Port. Additionally, a new belt road will be constructed for Nowshahr Port, further enhancing logistical capabilities.

Beyond these, PMO has initiated the construction of several additional projects that will become operational in the near future. These include a 50,000-ton oil dock at Shahid Beheshti Port, the first phase of oil pipelines at the same port, two bulk warehouses, and a ramp for mineral bulk carriers at Lengeh Port.

In January, Ali-Akbar Safaei, head of PMO, announced that 41 development projects worth 65 billion rials (approximately USD130 million) were slated for inauguration within the commercial ports of Iran. He highlighted that over 70 significant projects related to the sea economy and maritime development are currently underway, underscoring the PMO's commitment to enhancing maritime infrastructure.

The emphasis on sea-oriented development reflects a broader strategy focused on integrating maritime governance across oceans, seas, coasts, ports, and harbors. In mid-November last year, Safaei revealed plans to attract a total investment of 1.0 quadrillion rials (about USD1.968 billion) for the development of Iran's maritime economy. This investment will be divided between private sector contributions of 470 trillion rials (about USD924 million) and funding from PMO itself.
