Dot To Reimburse Testing & Certification Costs For Start-Ups And Smes

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Jul 19 (KNN) In a significant move to support India's growing Telecom sector, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has announced a new financial support scheme for start-ups and small enterprises.

The announcement was made during the theme launch event of the India Mobile congress 2024 on Thursday.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) will reimburse a substantial portion of testing and certification costs for eligible companies under this initiative. Start-ups will receive a 75 per cent reimbursement, while micro enterprises will get 60 per cent, and small enterprises 50 per cent.

The government has allocated a corpus of Rs 25 crore for this scheme, with a maximum reimbursement of Rs 50 lakh per beneficiary. Interested companies can apply for the reimbursement through an online process.

Emphasising the government's commitment to supporting emerging businesses in the telecom sector, Minister Scindia stated, "A child in its infancy needs all the support it can get.

And in the start-up environment, where every cent and every paisa counts the difference between today and tomorrow, the government has committed to stand with our MSMSEs and start-ups."

He also highlighted the critical importance of cybersecurity in today's digital landscape, noting that modern conflicts are increasingly "fought in clouds."

In a related development, Scindia revealed that the DoT has established a project management unit to oversee the rollout of 4G services by BSNL. This unit includes representatives from BSNL, TCS, Tejas, and C-DoT.

The minister, along with Telecom Secretary Neeraj Mittal, is personally monitoring the progress on a daily basis. This initiative is expected to provide a significant boost to India's telecom ecosystem, particularly benefiting smaller players and innovative start-ups in the sector.
