(MENAFN) It was reported that at least 16 Palestinians lost their lives and many others were injured during a series of Israeli airstrikes and shelling across the Gaza Strip overnight.

According to a local medical source cited by a Turkish news agency, 7 individuals died when their home in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip was hit by Israeli shelling. Additionally, 6 members of the Mhanna family were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their residence on Al-Jalaa street, and 3 others lost their lives in another airstrike in the Lababidi area of Gaza City, as reported by a Palestinian official news agency.

Medical teams also worked to rescue a child and several injured individuals trapped under debris from a targeted home in eastern Gaza City, as per the news agency.

On Monday, the Israeli military issued evacuation orders to residents in several neighborhoods across Gaza City, amidst ongoing raids in the eastern and southern parts of the city.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has continued its military offensive against Gaza in defiance of a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire. This has led to widespread international condemnation. Local health authorities report that nearly 38,200 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have been killed, with nearly 88,000 others injured as a result of the conflict.

After nine months of conflict, large areas of Gaza now lie in ruins, compounded by severe shortages of essential supplies such as food, clean water, and medicine due to a blockade.

In a significant development, Israel faces allegations of genocide at the International Court of Justice. A recent ruling from the court has ordered Israel to cease its military operations in the southern city of Rafah, where over a million Palestinians sought refuge before the area was invaded on May 6.
