Al Meera Launches Campaign To Reduce Use Of Plastic Bags

Doha: In line with its commitment to environmental sustainability and on the occasion of International Day Without Plastic Bags, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (Q.S.C.) launched a campaign to reduce plastic bag use. The initiative comes as part of Al Meera's social responsibility program and aligns with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's efforts. Al Meera is partnering with QTerminals for the campaign.

Commenting on this initiative, Al Meera Company stressed that protecting the environment is its top priority and an integral part of its commitment to both the environment and society, pointing out that the initiative contributes to urging community members to choose eco-friendly shopping bags over plastic, ultimately reducing waste volume.

During the campaign, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change set up a pavilion at Al Meera's Ain Khaled/Umm Al Seneem branch and broadcasted educational messages promoting environmentally friendly habits in daily life. To encourage public participation, the Ministry organized a competition with a total prize pool of QR5,000 in shopping vouchers.

The Ministry reaffirmed its support for national environmental initiatives like Al Meera's campaign. It highlighted the importance of reducing plastic bag use and adopting eco-friendly alternatives for promoting environmental sustainability and protecting Qatar's natural resources.

This year's campaign features Al Meera distributing over 100,000 paper shopping bags across its branches. This initiative goes beyond waste reduction, seeking to cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility within Qatari society, aligning with the ongoing efforts and shared goals of all parties to promote sustainability.
