Oil well in Libya erupts out of control, halting operations
(MENAFN) An oil well in Libya's Atshan field has erupted out of control, bringing all operations to a complete halt, as reported by government sources. This incident marks a significant disruption in the field's activities, affecting both production and safety protocols.
The Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC) provided detailed insights into the situation. According to the NOC, ongoing drilling and testing operations conducted via the Fayyad Bargan 1 rig encountered severe issues. The specific well in question, identified as C3/1, began bubbling uncontrollably, leading to a critical situation. This unexpected eruption necessitated the immediate suspension of all activities in the Atshan field, including the cessation of drilling operations and the shutdown of the drilling rig.
The NOC highlighted the gravity of the situation, noting that the uncontrolled state of the well posed significant risks. Consequently, all operational efforts were redirected towards stabilizing the well and ensuring the safety of personnel and equipment. Despite the severity of the incident, the corporation later announced a positive development. The NOC confirmed that its emergency response teams managed to regain control over the erupting well within a remarkably short period, specifically less than 24 hours. The well, which is operated by the Zallaf Libya Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Company, was stabilized, allowing for the eventual resumption of operations.
