Revive The Rain: The Power Of Planting Trees

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) "Look, Elizabeth! Clouds have come over our bed again, meaning it will rain tonight and our sleep will be disturbed."

When we were children, we used to set up cots in the yard, sleeping under the open sky every night. Almost every day, clouds would gather. If they grew thick and heavy, rain would follow within an hour, washing away the dust with a torrential downpour, and bringing cool winds.

Today, things are different. Despite dark clouds filling the sky, rain seems a distant possibility. The primary reason for this change is the daily increase in tree felling and the lack of active plantation campaigns.

As soon as July begins, the monsoon arrives, and with it, the planting season. It's said that if dry wood is planted in the ground this month, it will turn green-making it the ideal time for tree planting. The more we plant during this month, the greater the benefits. Unfortunately, interest in this campaign is remarkably low. In fact, it's fair to say there is a noticeable disinterest.

Instead, people focus their energy on buying electrical appliances like refrigerators, room coolers, and air conditioners, investing a significant portion of their income in these items rather than their health. However, due to severe load shedding and voltage drops, this often leads to regret. This situation arises because people are unaware of the benefits of planting trees. They don't realize how much the temperature can naturally decrease with just one tree. A single 11-foot tree produces as much cooling as three air conditioners.

If an area with an average of 50 houses each planted one sapling during the plantation drive, even if not all the trees survived, 40 could become large, thriving trees, benefiting many people.

Whenever I travel from Peshawar to my village, we stop where there are groves of shade trees. Sitting in the shade of these trees significantly reduces the temperature. Along with the feeling of coolness in this intense heat, it also serves as a stark reminder of the injustice we inflict upon ourselves by cutting down trees. We accept this injustice at the moment, but the severe consequences come later.

Let's all do our best during this plantation drive and make our future greener and happier!
