
Tourism Industry Veteran Shahabuddin Ahmad Passes Away
He was the Publisher/Editor of“The Travel World” magazine and former Chief of Planning Cell at Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism.
Ahmad was buried at Banani Graveyard in the capital.
On June 24, a dua-mehfil will be held after Asar prayer for the salvation of his departed soul at Masque Al-Magfirah in Uttara, Dhaka.
Ahmad was survived by his wife and three daughters. He is the elder brother of Bir Bikram Mahbub Uddin Ahmed, who led the Guard of Honour to the newly formed Independent Government of Bangladesh at Mujibnagar as well as the retired secretary to the Government of Bangladesh Dr Mohammad Haroonur Rashid.
His career spanned across tourism and media industries. Ahmad held key positions during his long illustrious career. He was the Assistant Chief of Pakistan Bureau of Tourism, Deputy Chief of Tourism Cell at Ministry of Defense in Pakistan and Ministry of Commerce's Foreign Trade Division of Bangladesh in post-liberation era.
Ahmad also served as Director of Public Relations at Bangladesh Bank, Director of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation, Secretary to Board of Directors at Bangladesh Services Ltd.
In 2019, Ahmad was honoured with PATA Gold Award by Pacific Asia Tourism Association for his dedication and excellence in the field. He was also a member and advisor of PATA Bangladesh Chapter since 1983.
