Azerbaijan And Kyrgyzstan Notice Steady Hike In Freightage - Minister


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 19. In recent years,there has been a growing tendency in cargo transportation volumebetween Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, particularly in the east-westdirection, the Minister of Transport and Communications ofKyrgyzstan Tilek Tekebayev said on the eve of the President ofKyrgyzstan's visit to Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

He proposed connecting a southern transport corridor in CentralAsia (CA) to the large East-West route, which is part of theTRACECA project and is supported by the Middle Corridor.

"This internal southern transport corridor will support theregional development of Central Asia and will allow increasingcargo flows not only to CA but also to neighboring states, inparticular to Azerbaijan," the minister said.

To note, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov will pay a visitto Azerbaijan on April 24–25.

TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) is aninternational transport initiative that includes the European Unionand 12 Eastern European, Caucasus, and Central Asian member states program's goal is to improve economic contacts, trade, andtransportation in the Black Sea basin, South Caucasus, and CentralAsia. It has a permanent secretariat in Baku, Azerbaijan, which wasinitially funded by the European Commission, and a regional officein Odesa, Ukraine. Since 2009, member countries have fully fundedthe organization.
