Turkmenistan Expresses Readiness To Expand Energy Supply Diversity Across ECO Region

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 28. Turkmenistanexpressed readiness to diversify energy supplies to the countriesof the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), Trend reports.

According to an official source, this was stated by President ofTurkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during a meeting in Ashgabatcity with ECO Secretary General Khusrav Noziri.

"Having huge reserves of natural gas, our country is ready tosignificantly diversify its supplies, including to consumers andtransit countries in the ECO space," the president said.

He noted that one of the priority areas of partnership betweenTurkmenistan and the ECO is the energy sector, where there areprospects for increasing cooperation.

At the same time, during the meeting, the sides exchanged viewson the prospects for multifaceted cooperation between Turkmenistanand the ECO.

They noted that the positive experience of joint workaccumulated over the past years serves as a reliable basis here, inconnection with which President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressedthat, advocating further intensification of productive cooperationwithin the organization, Turkmenistan seeks to enhance theeffectiveness of this multilateral structure.

Meanwhile, the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) is aregional intergovernmental organization that brings together Asianand Middle Eastern countries to promote economic cooperation, tradeand investment development, and to strengthen political andcultural ties among members.

The ECO Secretary General arrived in Ashgabat city toparticipate in an international conference on 'Main Directions andPotential for Tourism Development in Turkmenistan', which wasactively attended by representatives of ministries and departmentsof Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of leading tourismorganizations.
