(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Charity has sent a shipment of specialised medical supplies for kidney and cancer diseases from Turkey's Istanbul Airport to port Sudan Airport. The first plane carrying the aid arrived in cooperation and coordination with all the concerned government bodies in Turkey and Sudan.
This aid comes, with the support from the people of Qatar, as part of Qatar Charity's ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Sudan.
The aid, an extension of the Qatari airlift to Sudan, comes in response to the urgent appeal of the Sudanese federal Ministry of health to meet the need for these specialised medicines. The shipment includes 70 tons of specialised medicines and medical supplies, which were transported via four planes.
The first batch of aid was received at Port Sudan Airport by both the Sudanese Federal Minister of Health, Dr Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, and Qatar's Ambassador to Sudan, HE Mohamed bin Ibrahim al-Sada. This shipment was sent from Istanbul Airport in the presence of Ahmad Yousef Fakhroo, CEO's assistant for the Resources Development and Media Sector at Qatar Charity.
The Sudanese Federal Minister of Health, Dr Ibrahim, praised the ongoing humanitarian support of Qatar Charity to the brothers and sisters in Sudan, through the provision of essential medicines and medical supplies.
He stated that what distinguishes the grant is that it includes the first cancer medicines to reach the country since the commencement of the ongoing conflict, adding that cancer medications have become scarce and limited for approximately 18,000 cancer patients across various centres in Sudan.
He added that the grant provided by Qatar Charity for the patients with kidney failure will contribute to meeting the substantial need of approximately 8,000 kidney dialysis patients across different states in Sudan.
HE al-Sada noted that the aircraft is loaded with urgent medical supplies in response to the appeal of the Sudanese Federal Ministry of Health, for specialised medicines for kidney and cancer patients. He also stated that the two aid planes that arrived at Port Sudan Airport are an extension of the Qatari airlift, which consists of a total of 12 planes to support the people in Sudan.
Fakhroo, emphasised the utmost importance of this shipment given the scarcity of specialised medicines in Sudan. He highlighted that the shipment contains high-quality medications specifically related to cancer and kidney patients. He thanked the generous donors of Qatar for supporting the humanitarian efforts of Qatar Charity to help the people in Sudan. He noted that the crisis in Sudan has greatly impacted people's lives, especially in the medical sector.
