France, Sri Lanka meet for discussions over comprehensive Indo-Pacific area


(MENAFN) French Leader Emmanuel macron arranged talks with his Sri Lankan peer on Saturday on an open as well as wide-ranging Indo-Pacific district in the first trip ever by a French President to the Indian Ocean island country.

As the fourth biggest lender to Sri Lanka, France had promised collaboration in debt reform to assist the island country retrieve from its financial disaster.

Macron reached to Sri Lanka Friday night, after his visit to the South Pacific area, to spot the 75th anniversary of politic ties among both countries, Sri Lanka’s leader’s representative stated.

Sri Lanka Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe honored France’s major part in international relations, especially in aspects such as climate mitigation, international debt reform, in addition to subjects linked to the Indo-Pacific area, the report mentioned.

Macron declared in a post on X following the gathering “Sri Lanka and France are two Indian Ocean nations that share the same goal: an open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific. In Colombo we confirmed it: strengthened by 75 years of diplomatic relations, we can open a new era of our partnership.”
