TAIPEI, Taiwan, (Taiwan Today) – labor Minister Hsu Ming-chun met with French officials and executives July 4 in Paris to seek expanded cooperation on labor-related issues with the EU member state, according to the Ministry of labor.
During her meeting with French senate vice president Alain Richard, who also chairs the Senate's Taiwan Friendship Group, Hsu said the government is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the rights of immigrant workers despite their small percentage of the population.
The minister also outlined government projects to retain talent and support religious freedom, as well as progress in promoting gender equality, among other initiatives.
While calling on Thibault Dubus, an executive board member of Worldskills France (WSI), Hsu said both Taiwan and France place great importance on competitive skill development. The MOL will hold a national skills competition later this month and has invited WSI to take part in the event.
The French WSI's upcoming visit will allow the MOL to draw on its experience organizing WorldSkills Lyon 2024 as Taiwan starts preparing to host Worldskills Asia in 2025, the minister added.
Hsu said Team Taiwan bagged eight gold, nine silver and three bronze medals at the 10th International Abilympics March 24-25 in Eurometropole Metz. A total of 58 participants from the country will take part in 51 competitions at the Lyon event, she said, adding that their participation is expected to enhance Taiwan's reputation on the global stage.
According to the MOL, prior to visiting France Hsu convened the fifth edition of the annual Taiwan-EU Labor Consultation June 29-30 in Brussels with Joost Korte, the European Commission's director-general of employment, social affairs and inclusion.
The minister and her delegation also called on Rudi Delarue, president of the Belgian National Labor Council, to exchange views on issues of mutual interest July 3 in Brussels.
