Kakhovka HPP Explosion: Zelensky Rebukes International Organizations For 'Zero Support'

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Currently, there is virtually no attention from international organizations to the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine that was flooded as a result of the terrorist attack at the Kakhovka HPP.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated this during his address to global environmental activists, opinion leaders, and international experts.

He stressed that Ukraine will continue to do everything possible to save as many people as possible, noting the need for the world's support“not just with rhetoric, but with actions.”

“International organizations have started to help on the territory we control. I am grateful. On the occupied territory, there is zero support. And the longer this goes on, the more victims there will be, unfortunately. There is virtually no attention from international organizations to the occupied territory, which is flooded. And we need, in particular, your pressure on them! Please!” the President said.

He underscored that efforts must be made to make sure that there is not a single desert or ruin or dead zone left after this disaster. According to Zelensky, this can only be ensured by joint efforts, together with the global environmental protection community, policy makers, leaders and states, international organizations.

“Pollution and poison from the flooded area quickly get into the groundwater, poisons the rivers, and from there it enters the Black Sea basin. That is, there is no destruction of nature 'somewhere out there' – everything in the world is very interconnected. So please spread the truth about this Russian ecocide. Please urge leaders, states and international organizations to act,” the President of Ukraine added.

As reported, the Russian army blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam on the night of June 6. In Kherson region, rescue operations and measures to evacuate people from flooded areas continue. The situation remains particularly dramatic in the temporarily occupied territories where the Russian invaders left the civilian population without any help, while access of Ukrainian rescue services to these people is extremely difficult or impossible.

Law enforcement officers have initiated an investigation under the article "ecocide". Ukrhydroenergo hydro power generating company stated that the Kakhovka HPP is completely destroyed and cannot be restored.
