Amir's Visit Historic Event: Uzbek President's Special Representative


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov said that the official talks that will bring together His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Samarkand will contribute to further development of friendly relations between the two countries, in addition to enhancing political dialogue, enriching cooperation in trade, economy and investment in practice and expanding the scope of cultural and human relations.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Abdulaziz Kamilov described the visit of His Highness the Amir to Uzbekistan as a historic event, especially since His Highness the Amir is the first among the leaders of the Gulf states to visit the new Uzbekistan, at a time when the bilateral relations between the two countries are undergoing great distinction.
He pointed out that the visit will witness the signing of a number of important documents, including agreements to implement investment projects and joint programmes.
He affirmed his country's support for the initiative of His Highness the Amir to establish the Uzbek-Qatari Investment Fund, saying that the fund is very important to support economic cooperation between the two countries.
He also expressed his confidence that the high-level talks between the leadership of the two countries will help further develop friendly relations, enhance political dialogue, enrich cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, investment, as well as expand the scope of cultural and human relations.
Abdulaziz Kamilov said that his country views the State of Qatar as a reliable partner in the Middle East region, adding that the common dominators between the people of the two countries and the cultural and scientific factors enhance the rapprochement of the two countries.
He said that with the strong joint efforts of the two leaderships, our bilateral relations have risen to a high level in recent years and political dialogue was strengthened. Furthermore, many visits of various levels were organized, as meeting were held between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and His Highness the Amir, and both Ministers of Foreign Affairs met 9 times during the past two years.
He pointed out that the recent opening of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Tashkent indicates the level reached in terms of relations at a time when parliamentary leaders held a meeting in Doha, in which an agreement was reached to further activate the international parliamentary dialogue.
He explained that the two countries have also developed close ties within the framework of international and regional organization, including the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
He noted that cooperation in the economic and trade field began to develop in a positive way. Bilateral relations in the cultural field witnessed rapid progress, he noted, adding that there are important changes in cooperation in the field of education, as a number of Uzbek students study political science, international relations and economics in many higher education institutions in the State of Qatar. At the same time, he welcomed Qatari students to study in leading universities in Uzbekistan, especially in universities specialized in the fields of medicine, agriculture, engineering and tourism.
At the end of his statement to QNA, Abdulaziz Kamilov spoke about effective communication in the field of security between the two countries, especially in terms of close cooperation on the Afghan issue, saying that opinions on the crisis in Afghanistan are similar and highlighting the State of Qatar's support for Afghan people.
He greatly appreciated the outstanding contributions made by the State of Qatar in promoting peace and ensuring stability in Afghanistan, which confirms that the cooperative relationship between it and Uzbekistan in this issue is developing in a spirit of friendship and mutual trust.
