Qatar-Italy Ties 'Built On Solid Pillars Of Strategic Dialogue'

Doha, Qatar: Ambassador of Italy to Qatar, H E Paolo Toschi has emphasised the strength and vitality of relations between the two countries. He said the ties are built on solid pillars of strategic dialogue, and highlighted the various dimensions that contribute to the robust relationship.

“Our relationship is built on solid pillars of strategic dialogue that was launched in 2022," he told The Peninsula, mentioning this year's visit by Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Rome upon the invitation of Italian President H E Sergio Mattarella.

The envoy also touched on the trade relations between Qatar and Italy which have seen a remarkable growth, with 2022 witnessing a significant increase of over 140% compared to the previous year. This impressive surge in trade volumes indicates the strength and dynamism of the economic ties between Qatar and Italy, setting the stage for further collaboration and investment opportunities.

Additionally, defence relations between Qatar and Italy have flourished over the years, with joint efforts showcased during major events such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The collaboration between the armed forces of both nations demonstrated the trust and cooperation that underpin their defence partnership.

Ambassador Toschi explained that Qatar and Italy have also fostered a long-term energy partnership based on strategic alignment and not on“last minute” arrangements.

The scientific collaboration between the two countries is extensive, encompassing various sectors, notably in the fields of medicine and human body science, where universities and research centres from both nations are working closely together.

This collaboration has yielded significant advancements and breakthroughs, showcasing the potential for further scientific achievements.“Singling out the medicine because it is very successful and doing very well, so medicine and science in human body,” he said. Moreover, cultural cooperation has been a focal point, with museums and artists from both countries actively engaging in collaborative projects. The ongoing Venice Architettura Biennale, for instance, has witnessed the participation of talented architects from Qatar, contributing to the vibrant creative world. Such cultural exchanges enrich the societies of both nations and foster mutual appreciation and understanding.

Ambassador Toschi affirmed that all these elements collectively contribute to a solid and healthy relationship between Qatar and Italy.

Both countries are committed to fostering engagement and cooperation across various sectors, ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of their partnership.“It's really something that makes us proud and I would say all of these elements constitute a very solid, very healthy relationship,” the Ambassador noted.

Moreover, the envoy stressed that both countries are“working across all sectors of business engagements.”
