Amman, May 14 (Petra)--Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, on Sunday signed agreements with investors to establish 4 food factories, with an investment worth JD2 million.
Under the agreements, two factories will be established to produce partially processed potatoes and collected vegetables, while the other two plants will produce mushrooms, as part of the Agricultural Industries Stimulation Project in the Kingdom's industrial estates.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Hneifat said these factories will create more than 100 job opportunities, adding that Jordanian- Palestinian Agricultural Marketing Company (JPACO) will follow up on all these contracts and draft marketing plans to launch foreign promotion opportunities to help their success.
This agri-industries stimulation project is an extension of the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture, which came in implementation of Royal directives on the importance of food security and need to develop food industries, in partnership with the private sector, Hneifat pointed out.
On its goals, Hneifat said the project aims to network agricultural production with industry to increase added value of agricultural products, absorb surplus production, increase agri-exports, improve farmers' incomes, and provide new job opportunities for the local community.
For his part, Jordan Industrial Estates Co. (JIEC) Director General, Omar Juwaied, noted the project seeks to attract agricultural investment to Jordan's industrial estates and distribute production opportunities to the Kingdom's governorates, especially since the agreements signed today will be launched in the industrial estates in governorates of Irbid, Karak, Tafilah, and Amman.
Juwaied added that this project is in line with the JIEC's role in involving and developing Jordan's productive sectors and providing "appropriate" services and infrastructure to ensure their sustainability.
