Former Indian Diplomat Highlights Opportunities for India, Turkey to Work Together

(MENAFN) Former Indian diplomat and author, Vikas Swarup, discussed the ways in which India and Turkey are contributing to each other during a recent interview. Swarup noted that Turkey is a member of the G20 and has been supportive of India's G20 presidency. He also recalled India's Operation Dost, launched in response to twin earthquakes that hit Turkey earlier this year.

According to Swarup, one significant connection between the two countries is that they are both developing nations. While Turkey's per capita income is higher than India's, Swarup pointed out that Turkey is still a developing country. This shared status allows them to see eye-to-eye on many international issues, including the environment and the World Trade Organization. Swarup sees many opportunities for the two countries to work together in these areas.

Swarup also highlighted the problem of indebtedness faced by many poorer countries and believes that India and Turkey can work together to help these countries with debt restructuring and climate finance. He believes that these are just a few of the areas where India and Turkey can work together to make a difference in the world.

During his recent literary engagement in Istanbul, Swarup spoke about the unique event at the Rami Library, where two diplomat-writers and two friends discussed their work and contributed to the cultural ties between India and Turkey. He also praised the popular Turkish series, Dirilis Ertugrul, which has gained international popularity and exposed more Indians to Turkish literature and culture.

Overall, Swarup's comments highlight the importance of cultural ties and collaboration between developing nations. As India and Turkey continue to build their relationship, there are numerous opportunities for them to work together on shared goals and make a positive impact on the world.
