São Paulo – Morocco , Pará , and the bikini are behind a Brazilian company that conquered the world and arrived in the Middle East using the beach sands as its catwalk. blue man , a company specializing in beachwear, did not create the bikini, but its founder, David Azulay , who passed away in 2009, perfected the worldwide successful piece. Not only that: Blue Man has several types of beachwear in its portfolio and exports to Lebanon and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
Sharon Azulay: Daughter of one of the brand's founders
While the company's portfolio has much more than the famous women's swimwear, the bikinis that Azulay perfected – back when they were still made with denim – drove the company's expansion. Son of a Moroccan father and a Peruvian seamstress, he, his mother, and brother moved from the Brazilian Northern State of Pará to Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960s. In 1972, Azulay founded Blue Man. The bow bikini, which allowed women to adjust the garment to the body better, is an Azulay creation. Regarding men's clothing, the boxer swim briefs returned to the beach based on the company's designs.
In the 1980s, Blue Man ventured outside Brazil for the first time, selling its pieces in Miami, in the United States. It had 20 points of sale in the Brazilian territory, which were reduced to 10 units in Rio de Janeiro, Búzios, and Niterói, cities in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and one in Vitória, in Espírito Santo. The company also distributes its products through 300 multi-brand stores in Brazil.

President Sharon Azulay , David's daughter, defines the company as having“a Rio soul and Brazilian DNA. We can carry this standard-bearer around the world.” She doesn't say that for anything: There are plans to open stores in São Paulo, Goiânia, and Salvador. In addition to the planned expansion within Brazil, Blue Man has other goals abroad. As Sharon said,“in the international area, the company has always had a strong presence,” with customers in France, Japan, Chile, Portugal, Greece, Angola, and Chile.
Blue Man is part of the Texbrasil project, carried out in partnership between the Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) to foster business in the sector. When the agreement is renewed every two years, new companies can join Texbrasil to promote their products abroad. It is also during renovations new target markets for these products are defined.

Among the Arabs, Morocco is a target market for the 2022-2024 biennium. But the company's focus on North Africa and the Middle East does not stop there. In 2022, the company exhibited and sold its products at Galeries Lafayette in Dubai Mall, in Dubai, in a pop-up store created in partnership between the Texbrasil project and the Fashion Jardim store. Dubai continues to be one of the destinations for Blue Man products, as well as Lebanon.
The main products exported to these countries are swimsuits and cover-ups .“As the Brazilian market has a demand for larger models, they somehow adapted to the foreign market, but we hope to be able to meet the expectations of international customers fully,” said Sharon.
