Russian TV Channel Unveils AI Weather Presenter

(MENAFN) A local TV channel in Russia’s Stavropol Region has introduced an artificial weather presenter created with the help of neural networks. The program, called ‘Future Forecast’, is hosted by an AI presenter named Snezhana Tumanova and is set to air five times a day. The channel said that one neural network is responsible for the virtual presenter, another for preparing the text, and a third for generating graphic content.

The move follows similar initiatives by other countries, including China, which launched an ‘English AI Anchor’ at the state-run Xinhua News Agency in 2018. The People’s Daily, China’s leading newspaper, also recently unveiled an AI presenter named ‘Ren Xiaorong’ that will broadcast the news 24 hours a day.

While the use of artificial presenters raises questions about the future of human jobs in the media industry, it also highlights the potential of AI in various fields. By harnessing machine learning and other technologies, AI can process vast amounts of data and generate insights and predictions that can inform decision-making and enhance human capabilities.

However, as AI becomes more advanced and ubiquitous, it is also important to consider its ethical implications and potential risks. Ensuring that AI is developed and used responsibly will require ongoing dialogue and collaboration among various stakeholders, including policymakers, industry leaders, and the public.
