Sweden pledges nearly USD30 million to Ukraine Energy Support Fund and IAEA mission
(MENAFN) Sweden has announced that it will contribute nearly USD30 million to Ukraine Energy Support Fund, according to a statement by Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko after a meeting with Swedish Deputy Prime Minister Ebba Busch. The Ukrainian ministry's press service reported the announcement. Galushchenko also revealed that Sweden will offer funds to support the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission, which operates at all of Ukraine's nuclear power plants. He added that it is crucial that observers can record the effect of Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and nuclear and radiation safety.
The Swedish government's decision to provide aid comes as Ukraine faces ongoing challenges from Russian aggression, particularly in the energy sector. Ukraine has received both monetary assistance and equipment from international partners, which have been essential in restoring its energy facilities following Russian attacks. The Ukrainian government has taken steps to increase energy independence, including developing its renewable energy sector, but more support is needed to strengthen its energy security.
Sweden's contribution to Ukraine Energy Support Fund will help Ukraine continue its efforts to modernize and develop its energy infrastructure. The fund provides financial support for projects aimed at enhancing energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable energy, and improving energy security. By investing in Ukraine's energy sector, Sweden is not only supporting the country's economic development but also helping to bolster its security against external threats. The contribution also reflects Sweden's commitment to the values of democracy and the rule of law, as well as its support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
