Pakistan Vows To Safeguard Its Sovereignty And Territorial Integrity

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday commemorated the fourth anniversary of Pakistan's befitting response to the airstrikes conducted by India on February 26, 2019, in violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.

The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan in a press release stated that the incidents of February 26-27, 2019 bear witness to India's hostility and jingoism, and the tremendous restraint and responsibility demonstrated by Pakistan.

Following the air strikes, Pakistani forces captured an Indian pilot and returned him to India as a gesture of peace and goodwill.

The statement said that India should remain mindful of the consequences of its reckless conduct and realize that the Pakistani nation remains ready to fully safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

At the same time, Pakistan is committed to peaceful co-existence and resolution of long-standing disputes. A durable peace in South Asia remains contingent upon a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

On February 26, the Indian Air Force (IAF) struck a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist camp at Balakot, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

The next day, the Pakistani Air Force (PAF) launched a retaliatory strike in the Rajouri sector of Jammu. In the ensuing aerial battle, India claimed to have shot down a Pakistani F-16 fighter aircraft while losing a MIG-21 whose pilot was captured
after he was forced to eject over Pakistani-held territory.

This comes as Pakistan is already plagued with deep security challenges and an economic crisis that has been unprecedented in the country for decades.

Meanwhile, since the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) called off its unilateral ceasefire with the Pakistani government, the militant group has intensified its attacks throughout Pakistan, claiming the lives of scores of security personnel and innocent civilians.
