"Dances With Wolves" actor faces expanded charges in sexual abuse case

(MENAFN) Former actor Nathan Chasing Horse, best known for his role in the film "Dances With Wolves," is facing an expanded set of charges related to the sexual abuse and trafficking of Indigenous women and girls in the United States and Canada. A grand jury in Nevada indicted Chasing Horse on 19 counts, including kidnapping, lewdness, and drug trafficking, adding to previous charges of sexual assault, trafficking, and child abuse. The charges are in relation to Chasing Horse's alleged use of his position as a self-proclaimed medicine man and cult leader to physically and sexually assault Indigenous women and girls, whom he took as underage wives.

Chasing Horse is also accused of grooming young girls to replace his older wives, with members of his cult, known as "The Circle," believing that he had healing powers and could communicate with higher beings. The actor now faces charges in four jurisdictions, including the newest case brought by prosecutors on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana.

Kristy Holston, Chasing Horse's public defender, stated that she was looking forward to revealing weaknesses in the state's case during a preliminary hearing that was canceled ahead of the indictment. Holston has not commented on the additional charges filed against her client. An arraignment is scheduled for March 1 in Clark County District Court.

Chasing Horse was arrested on January 31 near his North Las Vegas home, where authorities found firearms, psilocybin mushrooms, 41 pounds of marijuana, and two cellphones containing videos and photos of underage girls being sexually assaulted. The footage led to federal child pornography charges in U.S. District Court in Nevada.

The allegations against Chasing Horse date back decades, and he now faces a range of serious charges that could result in a lengthy prison sentence. Born on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, Chasing Horse gained fame for his role in "Dances With Wolves" and is now facing serious legal consequences for the alleged sexual abuse and trafficking of Indigenous women and girls.
