Kuwaiti Constitution Ensures Social Development - Diplomat
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Feb 13 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's social development is based on transparent constitutional rules and guidelines which offer adequate support to its youth, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities, a diplomat said on Monday.
The state provides free social insurance, social welfare and healthcare to its nationals in the event of old age, sickness, or the inability to work, Kuwait's Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations, Tareq Al-Bannai, told a UN economic and social committee session.
The constitution also guarantees the preservation and protection of the family as a major component of the society, while having a clear policy to support the rights of persons with disabilities.
It seeks to provide these communities with legislation that ensures the facilities necessary for these people to be effective partners and contributors to development and prosperity of the society as a whole, he added.
On the youth, this commitment has been ensured through the establishment of a ministry, whose inherent responsibility is to take care of this group.
This reflects the political leadership's commitment and its full awareness of the necessity of empowering youth, added Al-Bannai.
Also, the Ministry of Social Affairs provides training within the framework of a national project that aims to qualify and help develop skills for entrepreneurs and owners of small enterprises.
A ministry was also created tasked with women and children, for the first time in the country's history, based on the directives of the political leadership.
It aims to build a balanced and cohesive society, based on respect for women's rights and the protection of children from exploitation or abuse.
The ministry's roles also include providing home services for the elderly.
All of these efforts target human development, through social responsibility, making the human the sole focus and goal of development processes, he outlined. (end)
