Poland announces previous Portugual manager Santos as new head coach

(MENAFN) The Polish Football Association appointed previous Portugal head couch Fernando Santos as their fresh manager Tuesday.

“‘We’ and ‘win’ -- these are the words that guide me in national teams and the words that the players hear from me at the first training camp," Santos stated following the announcement ceremony.

"I had the opportunity to watch four Polish matches at the World Cup. In the past, I also competed with the Polish national team. Now we will analyze the team's performance and then make appropriate decisions," he continued.

Santos, who previously took part as manager for Portugal as well as Greece, managed to achieve the EURO 2016 as well as 2018-19 Nations League titles with the Selecao.

The 68-year-old’s contract is going to go on for three and half years, during the EURO 2024 as well as the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Poland is going to start the EURO 2024 qualifiers two months from now, playing against the Czech Republic at Prague's Sinobo stadium.
